Federal IDR – Step-by-Step Process
When an out-of-network claim is underpaid or denied, JC Arbitrations helps you navigate the Federal IDR process under the No Surprises Act. Here's how it works:
Services Rendered
Patient receives care from an out-of-network provider.
Initial Payment or Denial
Within 30 days, the payer must issue either a payment or a denial.
Open Negotiation (30 Days)
If the payment is unsatisfactory, the provider can initiate a 30-day negotiation window with the payer.
IDR Initiation (4 Days)
If no agreement is reached, either party has 4 business days to initiate the Federal IDR process.
IDR Entity Selection (3 Days)
Both parties must agree on a certified IDR entity within 3 business days.
Best Offer Submission (10 Days)
Each side submits a final payment offer and supporting documentation.
Arbitrator Decision & Payment (30 Days)
The IDR entity selects one offer. The losing party pays the arbitration fee, and the payer has 30 days to issue payment.
